Marylin Calzadilla
Marylin Calzadilla, Psy.D., is the team member at L.A. Bariatrics who helps patients work through the emotional and psychological concerns before and following bariatric surgery.
A licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Caldzadilla received her doctorate in clinical psychology in 1999 from the California School of Professional Psychology, having previously received her master’s degree there and her bachelor’s degree at California State University, Northridge.
For the past ten years, she has worked as a health psychologist, evaluating candidates for bariatrics, implantable devices, and spinal surgery, as well as providing pain management treatment and post-surgical support to bariatric and other patients.
Dr. Calzadilla has also performed individual, group, and family therapy for adults, adolescents, and children at several facilities around Los Angeles. As a researcher, Dr. Calzadilla has worked as an examiner for clinical assessment tools to assess intelligence of Spanish-speaking children, attention-deficit disorder, and other purposes.
Los Angeles residents who choose to undergo bariatric surgery at L.A. Bariatrics will meet with Dr. Calzadilla before surgery. Her role is to assess whether a patient is ready for the important life changes and new responsibilities that weight loss surgery entails, as well as to support patients as they deal with these adjustments after the fact. She is a central member of our team.
Dr. Calzadilla speaks fluent Spanish, and she is affiliated with the Marina Del Rey Hospital, home of L.A. Bariatrics.
